Happy Independence Day

School Training Solutions would like to wish everyone a safe and exciting Independence Day.  In honor of the 4th of July enjoy these 5 facts you may not know about this holiday:
1. Two future presidents signed the Declaration of Independence: John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. Both died on July 4, 1826 – the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration.
2. July 2nd was actually the day the second Continental Congress voted for our independence. John Adams even wrote in a letter to his wife, “The second of July will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival.” However, July 4th became the day our independence is celebrated as that was the day Congress officially adopted the Declaration of Independence document.
3. John Hancock was the only delegate who actually signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4th.
4. The Bristol Fourth of July Parade in Bristol, Rhode Island is the oldest continuous Independence Day celebration in the U.S.
5. July 4th was not made an official holiday until 1870 and was not a paid federal holiday until 1938.
As you celebrate today with family, BBQs, and fireworks, take a moment to reflect on the bravery, strength, and commitment our ancestors possessed, as well as that maintained by our military service men and women in order to ensure our freedom.
