STS Highlights: July YEAR

Summer = HEAT. Heat-related illness is a big issue for the next few months, but there are ways to prevent it if you can recognize the symptoms.

With children out of school, it is even more important to be aware of your surroundings while driving and safely share the road with pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcycles, school buses, and other automobiles. Enjoy and use this month’s resources, but make the best of your Summer!

The goal with these monthly resources is always to convey a few public service announcements (PSAs) and to help elevate your career, department, or organization. As always, we take pride in helping you meet your training needs and goals.

Any driver currently holding a valid CDL can obtain a Hazardous Materials (H) endorsement upon successful completion of THEORY training and an H (endorsement) knowledge test. Every WV user with an active training/testing account has access to an entire catalog of training, in addition to the WV specific courses. Class A vehicles are some of the heaviest trucks on the road including, but not limited to, tractor trailers, truck and trailer combinations, double and triple trailers, tanker vehicles, livestock carriers, or flatbeds.

Any driver seeking a Class A CDL is required to complete THEORY and BEHIND-THE-WHEEL training and successfully pass a CDL skills test. The Smart Horizons Class A Theory curriculum satisfies the THEORY training requirement ONLY.

Smart Horizons is an approved Training Provider for THEORY curriculum. The various Smart Horizons ELDT curriculum tracks align with federal requirements, and course completions are reported to the Training Provider Registry.

This edition always feels like the unofficial “vacation” version because… SUMMER BREAK! While it is a coveted time to rest and relax after the school year, it is also a relatively busy time for pupil transportation with industry conferences and, in a lot of cases, annual training. For these reasons, the curated resources are heavy on the training and conference announcements. It’s impossible for me to list them all, so support your State Associations!

Also, remember to allow proper time to rest, relax, and recharge.
